Smaller breeds like Yorkies are adorable. They also tend to be a lot more demanding. They’re not just going to eat anything you put in front of them. Ask me – I was pet-sitting for a friend with two of them.
Tempting them to eat when they were missing my friend was difficult. You’re also concerned for them – they have such small tummies and appetites that every scrap of food needs to count.
Fortunately, Purina has tackled this problem headlong. Their Bella range is designed especially for smaller dogs. In these Purina Bella dog food reviews, we'll have a look at how these foods measured up.

I handed over the taste testing portion to my three experts – Pickle, Peanut, and Archie, and the overwhelming winner was the Bella Purina small dog food six flavor bundle.

This product is nutrient-dense and specifically designed for smaller dogs. They need more energy to take the bigger doggies on, after all.
Now, Pickle isn’t a small girl. She’s a miniature schnauzer, so she’s a bit larger than your typical teacup breed. That said, she’s game for anything, and she wolfed this food down fast. She loved this food.
Our old man, Archie, did too. He's getting on a bit, so it's not so easy to crunch down anymore. The smaller size of these chunks really appealed to him.
What I like about this brand is that you get a blend of chunks and little tender bits. The tender bits are yummy for your dog. The kibble helps slow them down a bit and cleans their teeth.
The slightly sweet taste of the sweet potato adds an extra dimension to tempt fussy eaters.
My little monsters gobbled this food up fast. I do wonder what would happen with really fussy eaters, though. Would they ignore the kibble and just eat the tender bits?
It’s good food. It’s the perfect size for a smaller dog.
3.5 out of 5 All the scrumptious goodness your dog loves and needs.
Want to spoil a special little someone? Getting this twelve-pack bundle means that they get to try six different flavors. From there, they can choose their own favorites.
There's nothing worse than buying a pack of dog food only to find that your little fusspot won't eat it. What I like here is that you get six flavors in one package. Now, even the pickiest eater should find something to love there.
The flavors sound quite tempting, even to me. You’ve got:
I also feel that the price is very affordable.
If you’ve got a little pooch who needs to lose weight, it could be problematic. They’re going to scoff up this food in next to no time.
Most pooches are going to go nuts over this food. I’m human, and I wouldn’t mind eating porterhouse or chicken and smoked bacon every night. This bundle offers a range of choices and great value for money.
4 out of 5 A lip-smacking success.
If your pooch needs to be tempted to eat, it doesn’t get much tastier. This pack of twenty-four comes with a mixture of the porterhouse and filet mignon flavors.
Some dogs can be stubborn. They only eat what they like. Unfortunately, they’ll leave food on their plate if it isn’t up to scratch. What I like here is the food is tender and that the gravy looks rich. Mix it in with the kibble to entice your pooch to eat more.
The packs themselves are easy to store and won’t take up too much space in your kitchen cabinets.
It comes in individual serving sizes. If you have a tiny dog, like a Yorkie, these are perfect. If your dog is bigger, like a Maltese, you'll need more than one packet per meal.
Overall, you’ll score lots of loving cuddles if you treat your dog to this pack. With twenty-four per pack, you won’t run out soon.
4 out of 5 Perfect for a pampered pooch
If your pooch needs to lose a little weight, this is going to be the better option. Chicken and turkey are both lean proteins.
Now you can sneak in veggies without your pooch knowing. This flavor combination includes green beans and carrots. Not the most exciting, perhaps, but good solid nutrition.
I think the combination of the crunchy bits and softer pieces is a good match for an older doggie.
I think most dogs would love the taste. The only issue I have is that the different chunks make it easy for dogs to sort out the best bits. They might then leave the rest.
If you have a small dog breed, you’ll like this brand. The chunks are small, and the dogs will find them tasty. It’s an affordable alternative to some of the premium brands.
3.5 out of 5 Grab a bag and be a Rockstar in your dog’s eyes.
For the better part of a century, Purina has been creating quality pet food. It’s a well-known and well-loved brand. It’s made a name for itself by producing innovative formulations using good ingredients.
The company was initially started in 1894. Back then it supplied food for farm animals, but over the years, it began to change its focus. Today Purina is a global leader in the pet food industry.
They produce a range of different products under different names—Alpo and Dentalife, for example.
Purina has always adopted the approach of providing optimal nutrition for pets. Bella is just one of their specialized lines. Unlike many other premium brands, you can find affordable ranges too.
They also offer an innovative, customizable range. This is more expensive, naturally. The advantage is that the pet owner and the company work together to create a custom food program.
Over the years, this is just one of the innovations that the company has come up with. They’re also known for improving their formulations for better flavor and nutrition.
The company insists that employees be passionate about pets. This is a company that looks out for pets. They proved that in 2016 when they voluntarily recalled some of their Pro range. This was because the vitamin levels in some of these products were lower than usual.
Overall, Purina has established itself as a trustworthy brand. Whatever your budget, you’ll find a range to suit you.
When it comes to dog food, doing upfront research is essential. There are a lot of dog foods on the market that have little to no nutritional value. Unfortunately, the health of your fur baby is not as important to everyone.
Purina has shown that they're different. They're a reputable brand with a proud history. My panel of judges gives the Bella range a four out of five yaps. They love the taste and consistency.
